Basic Medical Treatment Guide
How to complete Basic Medical Treatment in Animal Hospital: DNA analysis, administering the correct items, and using the wrong-item trick on Anomalies.
Last updated: June 19, 2026
Basic Medical Treatment is the bread and butter of Animal Hospital. It happens in rooms 1–5 on the right side of the hospital and is by far the most common treatment you will perform. Master this and the bulk of every shift becomes routine.
The Basic Medical flow
Basic Medical follows a simple two-phase pattern:
- DNA analysis. Interact with the patient to begin analyzing their DNA. This phase takes about 10 seconds and runs on its own.
- Administer items. Once analysis is done, give the patient the correct treatment items from the hallway supplies. This is the phase where mistakes are fatal.
That is the whole loop — analyze, then administer. The skill is in doing it efficiently across five rooms while staying accurate on the item step.
Use the DNA analysis time
Because DNA analysis takes around 10 seconds and does not need you to stand there, the efficient play is to start the analysis and step away to do something useful — check in another patient, start a treatment in a neighboring room, or respond to an event. Come back when the analysis is ready for the item step. New players waste a lot of time standing idle during analysis; veterans treat it as free time.
Administer the correct items
This is the critical phase. After analysis, you administer treatment items, and the rule is absolute: giving the wrong item kills the patient and costs you points. The good news is that the order of items does not matter — if a patient needs multiple items, you can give them in any sequence. You just cannot give a wrong one. Take an extra moment here to be sure; the few seconds you save by rushing are never worth a dead patient and a tanked score.
The wrong-item Anomaly trick
Basic Medical rooms are the best place to use one of the game’s handiest tricks. If an Anomaly slipped through check-in and you admitted it, you can deliberately give it the wrong item to kill it. Because Anomalies dying does not cost you points, this removes the disguised monster cleanly and safely — no weapon needed, no scoring penalty, and no risk of it awakening into a roaming Skinwalker. It is one of the most efficient cleanup methods in the game.
Recovery is hands-off
After you administer the correct items, the patient enters a recovery period. Unless an event interrupts, you do not need to stay — non-Anomaly patients recover and leave on their own. So once the items are in, move on to the next room or the check-in desk and let recovery happen in the background.
Watch for room threats
Even routine Basic Medical can be interrupted by in-room hazards. The Bed Monster can spawn under the bed (approach with Maple Syrup to dismiss it), and the Don’t Look Up threat can appear on the ceiling (keep your camera down and finish your task). A Death Ritual can also start in a treatment room, requiring you to put out the candles before the timer ends. None of these should derail you if you know the correct response — see the Enemies and Events sections.
Build the habit
Basic Medical is where you spend most of your time, so make it smooth: start the DNA analysis, multitask during the 10 seconds, return and administer the right items, then leave the patient to recover. Repeat across rooms 1–5. Once this loop is automatic, the harder rooms — X-Ray, Heart Monitor and Surgery — are just variations with an extra mini-game on the front. Head to the X-Ray guide next.
Frequently asked questions
How long does DNA analysis take?
About 10 seconds. Because it runs on its own, you can step away to check in patients or handle an event and return when it finishes.
Does the order of items matter?
You can administer items in any order. What matters is correctness — giving even one wrong item kills the patient and costs points.
Which rooms are Basic Medical?
Rooms 1 through 5, located on the right side of the hospital. They are the most common treatment type you will perform.
